most useful software
May 27, 2007 by fritzellenI’m taking this from a post I’ve done before, but I’d done my ranking and I’m still of the same mind.
This is really hard. I can think of so many more than 5. I have to agree with the majority and say Word is the most important. Having students type their essays and papers is becoming more popular in high school and elementary. It’s helpful to know how to do the basics, like double spacing, and bulleted lists. Secondly, I’d say internet browsers are important. In order to effectivly research topics, the internet is very helpful. I think students should be taught how to find reliable sources online. Next, is Powerpoint, group presentations seem to go much smoother when there is a powerpoint available to help clue in all group memebers. Then I’d suggest, photoshop. I wish I’d had more training with photoshop while I was in school. I have a graphic design class and we were the only ones who were educated in this software. I bought a lot of how to books in addition. It’s really helpful to have an editing software. I use it a few times a week. I still don’t know all of the ins and outs. I just bought creative suite too, which is photoshop times a thousand. Lastly, Webdesign software is really cool. There are a lot of templates out there. I think html is something all people should have a general grasp of. How to post links, and photos.

Blog 1
May 13, 2007 by fritzellenI worked and hope to work again, in the Modern Language Resource Center at GVSU. We’re around technology all day long. We’ve recently switched to all Macs. I’ve never been uncomfortable in working with the technology in the lab which ranges from database maintenance to emailing professors. I grew up with Macs, so I welcome the change.
I’ve grown up with computers. My father was a journalist and came home with an old osborne suitcase computer when I was little. The computer was the size and shape of a midsized samsonite suitcase, and the screen was about the size of a postcard with glaring green letters. Five minutes of typing guaranteed a migraine.
My latest computer is a powerbook, it’s a little worse for wear after traveling around the world. I started blogging 6 years ago, and grew tired of it quickly. I still use my blog occasionally to keep friends and family updated while overseas. I think it’s better than mass emailing. They can check in if they want to, and it saves me from remembering who to send an email to.
